The Biennale of Sydney is looking for a highly motivated Cockatoo Island Office Administrator to join the team. This key role is responsible for the efficient management of the BoS site-office administrative systems, including logistics, OH&S, timesheet control and communications. Applications close on Wednesday, 29 February 2012
The Biennale of Sydney (BoS) is a not-for-profit arts organisation that presents an international festival of contemporary art (and Australia’s largest contemporary art exhibition) every two years in Sydney’s major art museums and galleries, and locations throughout the city.
The BoS is one of the longest running international biennales and Australia’s leading contemporary visual arts event. Since its inception in 1973, the BoS has successfully delivered 17 major exhibitions, which have featured the work of more than 1500 different artists from over 83 countries. The BoS also produces associated publications, supporting public programs and specialised education activities for students and school groups. The event and most BoS programs are presented free to the public.
The Cockatoo Island Office Administrator is part of the BoS team of highly motivated specialist staff and plays a key role in the organisation, and is responsible for the efficient management of the BoS site-office administrative systems, including logistics, OH&S, timesheet control and communications.
The role requires good organisation and time management skills, a warm personality and good people skills. Overall, a flexible approach to duties and tasks is required as well as a positive attitude. The successful candidate must possess the capacity to work autonomously in a busy environment.
The position is also responsible for controlling the financial aspects of the site office, including a cash float and obtaining tax invoices and receipts for all disbursements.
The position requires high level attention to detail to ensure reports, registers and financial matters are accurate and tasks performed efficiently.
Experience with office administration systems and general computer skills (PC – Office and Windows packages) are required. The successful candidate must also have the capacity to manage the site-office independently and ensure all systems run smoothly to support the work of BoS staff on Cockatoo Island from the installation period, through the exhibition period and to deinstallation.
The incumbent will need to hold a current First Aid certificate.
The Cockatoo Island Office Administrator reports to the Head of Finance and Administration, and works closely with the Administration and Finance, and Exhibition teams, in addition to the Public Programs, Marketing and Sponsorship, and Benefaction teams. The position offers the rare opportunity to be involved with participating Australian and international artists and visitors in the delivery of the largest exhibitions of contemporary art in the Asia-Pacific region.
This is a full-time contract position related to the 18th exhibition for the period from 19 March to 28 September 2012 to be based on Cockatoo Island. Hours are generally 8.30 am to 5.30 pm, five days a week (and will include weekends on a rostered basis).
